Introduction

Rationale

Group Collaboration

the Village will work together with organizations that exist to offer aid do developing countries and benefit from their expertise and logistics. The work on different projects will go through the Honduran government or by contracting private companies. Donations are the main source of funding for the project and work with liaisons amongst the locals and the government would be needed to ensure that everything is working properly. When companies are paid to complete a project, they will be required to hire a certain number of the local population at reasonable wages and teach them the basics skills needed for the job. This way when the work is done and the company leaves they will also leave people with work experience that can be transferred to other projects.

National Identity

This project also deals with the issue of identity which many Hondurans face. With high emigration rates and a prevailing apathy there is little left to motivate people to search for a better future. the Village aims at rekindling the spark of national pride by providing the opportunity to the locals to prove that given the chance they can make a difference in their lives. Creating a game that will reflect the culture, history and tradition of the Honduran people can reinforce their sense of belonging by allowing them to revisit their own country and reminding them to cherish what they already have.

Vicious Cycle

Honduras similar to many other developing countries is caught in a vicious cycle. Severe poverty limits education, the lack of education in turn bars progress and the lack of progress limits income and leads to poverty. Finding the resources to deal with the pressing issues of the day is essential, but in order to find lasting solutions the problems have to be addressed at their roots. By gathering information from local sources, organizing it and allowing both Hondurans and people from all over the world to work together towards a common solution, the Village hopes to link the people who know of the problems with those that might help solve them and break the vicious cycle.

Utilization of Technology

Computer technology has experienced immense growth in recent years - from its humble beginnings as a tool in the hands of a privileged few to an irreplaceable asset in many people's everyday lives. It has introduced many new ways of thinking about communication, business, and the exchange of ideas. The internet emerged and experienced its own evolution from a secret project to a powerful entity that connects over a billion people from all over the world.


Entertainment saw the emergence of computer games which too have progressed from simple leisure activities to a thriving industry with capabilities and popularity rivaled by few. This gave birth to Massively Multiplayer Online Games, some of them having millions of users subscribed to their services, all of them working towards a unified goal of exploration and growth. This presence of a common goal of millions of people word-wide, all brought together by the systems of the Village, presents us with an opportunity that is hard to dismiss. Technology today stands at a milestone where these immense systems for entertainment and communication can do more than just be used for leisure; they can affect and change the world we live in.
